Decorating for Christmas!

Holidays is the merriest season every year, and lively decor never fails to set the mood for the festivities. So every November, we always have a blast decorating our home... Its great bonding opportunity not to mention showing our creative ideas. First things first, decide on your theme or your colors, this year we decided on red and orange...

Decorating is a bit pricey, but we always get the best deals when we buy from Divisoria. Tip: Be an early bird, do your decor shopping right after New Year, you can get most items at 50-70% off! Just store it for the next Christmas season.

Here are some tips when buying Christmas decor:

Christmas tree:
  1. HEIGHT MATTERS – Measure the height of the room. Ideal height of the tree should be three fourths the height of your ceiling. Our ceiling is 4 meters high, so we went for an 8 feet tree which cost us about P1500 from Tabora St. in Divisoria
  2. GO FOR MEDIUM GIRTH – make sure proportion is right but if your space is limited get the slim ones.
  3. INVEST ON IT – Get one that will last at least five years. The one-piece tree with the branches attached and clipped for storage is the best. Buy trees with natural looking leaves. Some trees made of thick plastic are attractive to roaches so be picky.
  4. KNOW HOW TO STORE IT – Fold branches back carefully, wrap in plastic sheets and store upright in its original box.
ORNAMENTS:
  1. PLASTIC VS. GLASS – Two simple rules: If you change your décor every year, buy affordable plastic ornaments. But if you love collectibles and don’t mind repeating colors, make an investment and buy quality glass ornaments
  2. OUT WITH TINSEL – Don’t invest on paper-based décor (tinsel, paper lamps) Tinsel tarnishes and goes out of style easily aside from they are difficult to store and maintain
  3. GET CLASSIC COLORS – Having gold, red and green are safe colors for Christmas.
  4. BUY GOOD QUALITY RIBBONS – Get fabric wired ribbons, which are easier to manipulate and attach
  5. GET DIFFERENT SIZES – Display a maximum of four kinds of ornaments – like balls, ribbons, teardrops, and showers and play with different sizes.
  6. MAKE A LIST – Approximate how many ornaments you need before planning your shopping trip.
LIGHTS:
  1. TIVOLI LIGHTS ARE TIMELESS – and more affordable too.
  2. GET TRENDY RICE LIGHTS – smaller and more discreet than your usual Tivoli lights.
  3. LIGHTS WITH GREEN WIRING - if you're using a green tree get lights with green wiring so it blends with the color of the tree.
  4. Check for QUALITY and SAFETY.
